The World is Our Oyster - Multiple Sclerosis

We are the captains of our future! We have the ability to change our outlook on the world with just our perspective, mindset, and attitude. There are many variables that can cause this to shift – one of those being illness, disability, or disease. I read a blog from the perspective of a woman with Multiple Sclerosis. The blog is called, “My Conscious Decision,” which speaks volumes about the message behind the post. Click here to read her blog post!

I chose this to analyze based solely on the title of the article. I am a firm believer in mind over matter, and I think she did a phenomenal job in relaying this from her perspective of a young woman who has Multiple Sclerosis. For those who do not know, MS is an autoimmune disorder that targets our neurons to demyelinate. The symptoms of MS are typically weakness, tremors, coordination loss, visual changes, sensory problems, dysphagia, fatigue that leads to neurological issues, but most importantly constant pain. These symptoms can leave much less independent than you used to be and in a lot of distress. This aspect of MS is very hard for some people to accept, and this can be a precursor to depression or lack of motivation.

There are some people in the world that will rise to the challenge when faced with adversity, and she was definitely one of them. In the blog, she highlighted great points that we can use to support someone in their current condition. She stated that she does not want people to feel sorry for her; she wants people to uplift her and join forces with her in helping people understand that if you look at life from a thankful/positive perspective it is so much more enjoyable. I think this can improve a person’s quality of life and mindset when they are feeling low about their new condition and not knowing where to go or turn. Our perspective is key, and I think we all can take that advice into consideration no matter where we are in our journeys of life. The world is our oyster!!
